5 Must-Have Skin Care Products
It all depends on your skin. As an esthetician, it’s important I practice what I preach. My skin is a little drier, so my goal is to get as much hydration and anti-oxidants into my skin as possible. My 5 Must-Haves are as follows:
Vitamin C Serum - an anti-oxidant that helps with anti-aging and it helps lighten, heal, and protect your skin. This product can be used in the morning for all skin-types.
Peptides are great for anti-aging. They restructure, plump, and strengthen the skin. They also hep protect against sun damage and help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, as well as dark spots and dehyrdation. I love Rhonda Allison’s C Peptide Complex - not only does it contain peptides, but also provides a healthy dose of Vitamin C.
Moisturize, Moisturize! Regularly using moisturizer should be a part of any good skin care regimen, but some are better than others. Use a moisturizer that is oil free, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores), allergy and dermatologist tested. I recommend moisturizing two times a day - morning and night (and always moisturize after your bath/shower as hot water strips moisture and oils out of your skin).
Retinol is Vitamin A, and is a type of retinoid. It is most often found in over-the-counter skin care products. Retinol is wonderful because of its anti-aging and acne-clearing powers. It production of collagen and the healthy renewal of skin cells, helping to prevent the development of fine lines and wrinkles. I recommend Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Anti Wrinkle Cream with Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid - Night Cream.
Side note: you may have also heard of Retin-A which is like retinol and a type of retinoid. However, it is only available by prescription and is a lot stronger.
Sunblock - I’ll say this over and over again. Protect your skin a much as you can! Apply it after your moisturizer in the morning. I’m a big fan of EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46. It’s oil-free and very lightweight. It contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), hyaluronic acid and lactic acid, ingredients that promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin.
Some of the above ingredients can be purchased in one product. I can work with you to determine which products are best for you without breaking the bank.
I am a licensed esthetician. I have extensive experience in skin care, but my opinions on my site should not take the place of your doctor’s, your dermatologist’s, or any other health care professional that you work with. You should always check with your doctor first.
